Information about Speaker Cables

The motivational power for any audio application is the speaker cable. The right sound and perfect clarity can only be given by the right kind of these cables, whether it is a surround sound system or home stereo.

The various sizes of the speaker cables are 18 AWG, 16 AWG, 14 AWG and 12 AWG where AWG is American Wire Gauge. The smaller the gauge is, the thicker the wire is. CL-2 and CL-3 rated speaker cables are the two types of speaker cables found for in-wall installations with a basic standard speaker cable. There are also two styles involved in this i.e. the regular and the flat style keeping in mind the craftsmanship and quality of the speaker cables.

The longer the cable is run, it pays off the larger gauge and more chances of signal loss are acquired. Due to this reason it is not recommended to use anything which is less than a 16 AWG speaker cable.Electrical connections between the audio amplifiers and. the loudspeakers are made through these cables. There are three components of these cables i.e. inductance, capacitance and resistance which determines its performance.

The various factors which determine the quality of such cables can be its price, construction, convenience and its aesthetic purpose. The result may be more consistent only if throughout the length of the cable; good purification of the oxidizing material (copper) is used. It would be easy to pull a group of such cables if the cable wire is less reactive with the conductor. The longer the cable is run, it pays off the larger gauge and more chances of signal loss are acquired.
